Inspiring Women in Medicine (IWIM) is a community of like-minded, experienced and passionate medical women who come together to both share ideas and enjoy the social aspects of getting together with similar professionals.

It was set up by London-based Consultant Physician and Rheumatologist Dr Stephanie Barrett to bring together women in the medical professional from around the UK.

Dr Barrett noticed how many hard-working professional women medicine, both in private practice and the NHS, were missing the opportunity to enjoy the social side of connecting with like-minded colleagues on a larger-scale basis than simply those known through work or in the local area. Inspiring Women In Medicine aims to change that by offering a combination of a relaxed networking environment as well as the chance to enjoy the expertise of advanced speakers invited to evening meetings.

The speakers chosen as special guests for our IWIM dinners include women working in medicine who have expert knowledge and inspiring experiences to share. We also connect our members with notable women from the wider business and professional world. The speakers are often chosen to share their thoughts and special experience on the business side of medicine, which incorporates everything from leadership to marketing yourself professionally and as many women in medicine have their own private businesses alongside their main roles, it is an extremely valuable experience for all who attend. Members are encouraged to offer up potential topic areas for speakers to discuss so they can get the value they want from their membership.

In addition to the evening meetings IWIM plans to offer a wealth of knowledge and information on a more training-based level. Workshops, one-to-ones and training sessions will all form part of the organisation’s offering so that their members get true value from joining.
